Brides in quarantine
It’s been a rough time for a lot of people in this pandemic, a tough time for the events industry and a sad time for ‘brides to be’ with their wedding plans postponed.
But hope is there and the world is slowly returning back to a temporary new type of normality.
Planning a wedding is stressful enough without worrying what you will look like, how your hair will fall… and the frantic look on your face, as you turn to your spray tanner (me) and say ‘I don’t want to be orange’!
I smile back with a little laugh and my response is always the same, ‘the word orange is a forbidden word in my tanning culture’.
Within my business a big part of tanning, is tanning brides.
I thoroughly enjoy meeting a new ‘bride to be’, or to hear that a current client of mine is about to get ‘wed ‘.
Now as I prepare to get back on track and edge closer to potentially re opening my beauty studio, I had a moment thinking about all the brides keen to get their wedding plans rolling again and with weddings postponed it came hand in hand to have their beauty treatment’s postponed too.
While my clients have a bit more time to think about wedding plans before getting back to our ‘new normal’, I thought I would write you some key information on booking and preparing for your perfect wedding spray tan. There are quite a few things to think about and this will give you some time to plan it properly.
So you’ve decided you want a beautiful glow for your big day!
First things first – THE TRIAL TAN!
It’s so important to book in a trial, reason being you need to know if you like the colour and which day you prefer the colour.
It’s generally recommended to have the spray tan applied 2 days before the wedding. For example, if you’re getting married on a Saturday, I would recommend you have your tan on the Thursday.
As spray tanners we tend to have many different tones and brands, you may decide you want two trials, some of my clients like a trial for an overnight tan and then another trial for an express tan.
It’s very popular to have a trial for the hen do/s and this seems to be a very common time to trial it plus the tan doesn’t go to waste!
As long as the hen party is at least 2 weeks before the wedding, as we want to ensure all the tan is scrubbed off in time, having fresh skin for the big wedding day tan!
What you want to observe after the trial?…
Our skin will usually take a fake tan the same we would a natural tan. For example, if your chest doesn’t tend to tan very well in the sun, but your legs do you will usually find that fake tan will do the same and your chest will be lighter than your legs.
Take notice to see if there any parts of your body where you feel you would require more or less tan. We will go through this in consultation too and I can tailor the tan to suit your skin type/tone.
You want to take note of which day you preferred the tan on your skin, it may be you liked it on the 3rd day, so you know you will need to have your appointment 3 days before the wedding.
Here are some bitesize tips on preparation leading up to the appointment.
– Wax / laser / shave / hair removal cream minimum 24- 48 hours prior to the tan
– If your hair grows back daily when shaving, then shave after the tan – the night or morning before the event.
– Exfoliate for a few days leading up to the tan (more so if you have residue tan left on your skin), otherwise one scrub is usually efficient and the last scrub you do needs to be minimum 12-24 hours before the tan, this allows some time for the skin to settle before the tan is applied (use a non-oily exfoliant)
– Pay attention to all dry areas; hands, elbows, knees, feet and under arms.
– Exfoliate around where your bra straps sit if you tend to have them on tight and moisturiser around there and your body daily leading up to your tan.
– If you have any old fake tan on ensure to remove this before your appointment.
– If you use the wet roller deodorants ensure to give your underarms an extra scrub or avoid using this type of deodorant leading up to the tan. This deodorant can make the armpits turn green!
The Day of Your Tan…
Ensure your last shower before your appointment is at least 2 hours before or more, to help your skin settle and to avoid perspiration.
Ensure you have a product free body; no deodorant, no make-up, no body lotion or cream.
Bring some loose clothing, baggy clothing (nothing tight or even slightly fitted) as loose as possible and some flip flops.
I hope this has helped with your pre planning for your tanning. Any questions feel free to comment, send me an email or direct message me on Instagram.
I look forward to giving you the most perfect wedding spray tan.
